ARCHAEOLGICAL WORKS ON HINDSLAND
We have received the following update from the developers about Hindsland work which residents may notice.
“I’m writing to let you know of some upcoming archaeological work that is due to be undertaken at Land at Hindsland in the week commencing 3rd July.
We wanted to inform you ahead of the works in case you receive any queries from the local community about the activity on site. Please feel free to share this information more widely and do let me know if you have any further questions.
The work is being carried out in response to two archaeological conditions attached to the outline permission of the site (WD/2021/0594/MEA) and ahead of determination of the Reserved Matters application.
5) Prior to development of each Phase the applicant shall secure the implementation of a programme of archaeological works in accordance with a written scheme of investigation, including a timetable for the investigation, which has been submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority.
6) No phase of the development hereby permitted shall be brought into use until the archaeological site investigation and post investigation assessment (including provision for analysis, publication and dissemination of results and archive deposition) for that phase has been completed in accordance with the programme set out in the Written Scheme of Investigation approved under condition 5 to the written satisfaction of the local planning authority.
The works will be taking place in three areas of the site, and we have attached a copy of a site plan showing the exact locations of the trenches.
The trenches will be stripped using a 360-degree tracked excavator and the machine will remove layers of no more than 10cm at a time to ensure no archaeological deposits are damaged. Should any significant deposits be found, all machining will stop.
Work will be undertaken for a period of six weeks and the hours of operation will be from 0800 – 1800 Monday to Friday and 0800 – 1300 on Saturdays.
All the results from the survey will be made publicly accessible through the submission of a report to East Sussex Historic Environment Record and we would be happy to provide you with a copy of the report once complete.”
