Mayor Cllr Stephen Shing

At the Annual Meeting of Polegate Town Council held on 11th May 2026, Councillor Stephen Shing was elected to serve as Mayor of Polegate for the current civic year. At the same meeting, Councillor Dan Dunbar was elected as Deputy Mayor. The Mayor will preside over meetings of the Council and undertake civic and ceremonial duties on behalf of the town, supported by the Deputy Mayor, who will act in the Mayor’s absence where required.

Since 1999, Stephen has been a well-known and highly dedicated servant of our community, consistently working to support local residents and enhance the area for everyone.

He was first elected as a Wealden District Council councillor for the Willingdon ward in 1999, representing an area that also included parts of Polegate Town Council. Through his commitment, diligence, and strong connection with residents, he quickly earned the trust and respect of the community.

In recognition of his continued hard work and effectiveness, Stephen was elected in 2005 to East Sussex County Council, representing the communities of Polegate and Willingdon. He further extended his local service in 2007 when he was elected to Polegate Town Council, and he has proudly continued to serve across these roles ever since.

Over the years, Stephen has become a familiar and widely respected figure within the community. He is known not only for his experience and knowledge, but also for his genuine care for local people and his unwavering dedication to making a positive difference.
