Polegate Town Council have recently awarded the Mayors Cup to Paul and Sandra Hayes who ran ‘Withers DIY’ shop in the High Street for 32 years. This was presented to the couple for their hard work and dedication to the residents of Polegate and the wider community. Whilst the shop was their business, the couple always went out of their way to help their customers and supported the community with many local initiatives. Paul often litter picked and kept the grass area tidy on the private land at the front of the shops, they also regularly collected for local charities. He also kept the signal box garden looking wonderful when it was there. They went above and beyond for the residents and Polegate Town Council wanted to thank them and for this dedication to be celebrated!
Polegate Mayor Cllr David Watts, along with Cllr Dan Dunbar presented the award to Paul and Sandra who said ‘We would like to say thank you for the certificate and medal for long service to Polegate. It was quite a surprise. It is very nice to know someone appreciates 32 years of hard work’
