On Thursday afternoon, Polegate Town Council and Mayor, Councillor Dan Dunbar, had the pleasure of receiving a group of residents from our twinned town Appen, Germany. The twinning of our towns dates back to 1981, and this special occasion marked their first visit to Polegate since the onset of the Covid pandemic.
Mayor Councillor Dan Dunbar graciously welcomed Marco Stahr, the Group Leader, along with his wife Cindy and their esteemed friends and colleagues, back to the heart of Polegate. The occasion was marked by a warm reception held in our council chambers at our town hall.
Cllr Dan Dunbar said “On behalf of Polegate Town Council, as Mayor, I was delighted to welcome our guests to our town and in recognition of our friendship I was pleased to present them with one of my own photographs of Polegate and its surroundings.”
The inception of the Polegate Twinning Association dates back to the year 1981, following a decision by the East Sussex County Council to foster connections with the district of Kreis Pinneberg, situated near Hamburg, Germany. Polegate was quick to embrace this opportunity, resulting in a twinning arrangement with Appen. Additionally, in 1991, Polegate expanded its twinning bonds by forming a connection with Saintry-sur-Seine, a charming town in the Isle-de-France region of France, located in close proximity to Corbeil-Essonnes, to the south of Paris, along the Seine River. The primary mission of Town Twinning is to foster and promote international friendship.
We express our heartfelt gratitude for the enduring bonds of friendship that have united our towns, and we look forward to continued collaboration and goodwill between Polegate and Appen.
