We received some queries after we shared the information earlier in the week about the upcoming road closure on behalf of East Sussex Highways. Polegate Town Council contacted Highways to ask for further information and we have today received this which clarifies the matter.

The dates of the road closures for U7649 School Lane, Polegate have now changed dates to 4th January 2021 to 12th February 2021.

Please also  see below some extra information regarding the closures from East Sussex County Council……..

Potential Temporary School Street Closures (SUBJECT TO FUNDING)

ESCC is working with Sustrans on a potential 6 week pilot project which will trial restricting motor vehicle access into streets near the entrances to a few schools during school opening and closing times. It will help to encourage families to walk, scoot or cycle to school, making the area immediately outside the school safer for all.

ESCC has applied for funding from the Department for Transport’s Emergency Active Travel Fund Tranche 2 to fund the project. However, we are awaiting the outcome of a funding bid to confirm whether this can be taken forward.

We are working closely with the schools involved and if the funding is secured, we will also contact all residents in the roads affected to share our plans and address any concerns.

Although we had originally intended to start in November, confirmation of funding has been delayed. Therefore this project will now not start until after the Christmas holidays.

When the dates are confirmed they will be published on the ESCC website.  FAQs about the project can be found here: eastsussex.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/planning/emergency-active-travel-fund/about-the-emergency-active-travel-fund/

School Street closures are also taking place in Brighton and Hove and other counties.  Further information on school street closures around the country can be found on the Sustrans website here:
