On Monday evening Polegate Town Council elected Cllr James Heward as the new Deputy Mayor of Polegate. Cllr Heward shared his aspirations:
“I am proud to be representing Polegate as a newly elected councillor. This was the first of two significant moments. The second being nominated and then voted to be the Deputy Mayor of Polegate. I am honoured to be taking on this additional role and will do my best to represent and put Polegate first in everything I contribute to.
I have been a strong advocate for Polegate. Regularly voicing concerns on numerous local issues to our MP, town councillors and the wider councils of Wealden and East Sussex.
My interest in all things local started when I moved to Polegate in 2004 from Wickford in Essex. This was after meeting my wife Liz while working in London. She was born in Eastbourne DGH and grew up in Hampden Park.
When it came to deciding our long-term place to live, we unanimously settled on Polegate. There were numerous things that helped with that decision. Being close to the South Downs national park. The Cuckoo Line and Abbots Wood, to name a few of the wonderful places to go exploring.
My wife and I have since had two amazing children that are bringing continued fun and excitement into our lives. Exposing us to new experiences & ideas and keeping us of a youthful mind.
My passion for them to have a positive environment that lets them thrive here in Polegate drives me on. Now that they are older (eldest is 10) it has allowed me some time to get involved with the community. This led me to fulfilling my long-held desire to get involved as a local councillor. This is with the intention of offering some new ideas to council, but importantly ensuring we protect what Polegate, and the surrounding areas stand for on numerous levels.”
The Town Council welcomes Cllr Heward and wishes him well in his new roles.
